When it comes to stormwater management, water utilities and municipalities throughout the United States are looking for solutions to address increasingly extreme weather events, evolving regulatory requirements, workforce development challenges and lack of funding. In response to these challenges, optimizing the operation and maintenance (O&M) of stormwater assets – also known as stormwater best management practices, or BMPs – is essential to protecting infrastructure investments. To develop a substantial O&M program for BMPs, public agencies should consider taking the following three steps.
Three Steps to Optimizing Operations, Maintenance of Stormwater Assets
Dams are essential to society, providing water and energy for this generation and the next. The United States has the second highest quantity of large dams in the world — over 91,000 across all 50 states, with an average age of 57 years. Unfortunately, our decades-old dam infrastructure leaves residents threatened by water supply deficits and safety concerns. Dam owners and operators, municipal water supply divisions, water wholesalers, public utilities and hydropower providers should consider the following three key reasons to modernize existing and new dams.
Unlock the Benefits of Dam Modernization: Preserve Water, Provide Energy, Protect Lives

Your power distribution system’s ability to provide affordable service, effectively withstand the elements, mitigate security threats and comply with evolving regulations directly impacts your customers. No matter if they are in a dense urban city, a suburban sprawl or a remote rural community, customers are asking their utilities to consider the transition from overhead to underground power distribution — especially in the wake of increasingly extreme weather events.
The United States has the second highest quantity of large dams in the world — over 91,000 across all 50 states, with an average age of 57 years. Unfortunately, our decades-old dam infrastructure leaves residents threatened by water supply deficits and safety concerns. Dam owners and operators should consider these three key reasons to modernize existing and new dams.
